Quick notes

Chris Markey will not be used in the punt return game in Saturday's scrimmage, but remains in the mix to be UCLA's replacement for Maurice Drew. Coach Karl Dorrell will look at freshmen Jeremy McGee and Terrence Austin and sophomore Ryan Graves. The thinking is Markey is a known commodity, and this is the coaching staff's best chance to see McGee, Austin and Graves under pressure.
Also, Dorrell said receivers Marcus Everett, Junior Taylor and Gavin Ketchum would not take part in the scrimmage. With Joe Cowan already out, that is three of UCLA's top four receivers missing it, and Brandon Breazell is bothered by a hip flexor.
After saying after the morning practice tight end Ryan Moya would not participate in the scrimmage, Dorrell visited it again and said Moya (hamstring) could get a series. Still, the Bruins are mighty thin at tight end these days.
Defensive end Nikola Dragovic will see limited action.

A few days ago you mentioned that the receivers are having problems with drops. I also heard KD talk about drops in his Friday practice report. Could the fact that Ben Olson is a lefty QB have anything to do with the drops? The ball probably comes out of his hands with a different spin that the receivers might not be used to. If so and if you think Ben is going to be named the starter eventually, wouldn't this be a stronger argument for naming him as the starter soon so that the receivers get more reps from the lefty?

Why does it seem that UCLA always has more injuries that the average team? Also, why does it take so long for some players (Justin London, Kevin Brown) to heal from injuries that you see other players from different schools coming back to play in considerable shorter periods of time?
