Any questions?

UCLA does not practice Friday through Sunday, so I will do a mailbag over the weekend. There are already questions from other responses, but if you have any questions you would like me to try and answer, this is the time to submit them.

Hey Brian,

What are your impressions of the coaching staff? Although I believe they are stand up guys, I admit that they are sub-par when comparing them with other staffs throughout college football. They do not seem to make proper adjustments in game and lack creativity. Will this staff be able to close the gap with USC when it comes to talent and coaching? Besides the talent gap, we have seriously been outcoached scheme wise by Carrol and his crew. Am I losing it or are my observations accurate?

Thanks.

Mike-

Don't know where you get off making such sweeping generalizations about the coaching staff - with two new coordinators and a bunch of new assistants - after just two games. But let's take it on your terms: DeWayne Walker has turned a defense that was statistically one of the worst in 2005 into a statistically solid, upper-tier unit in 2006. What's more, the changes are obvious on the field. And Jim Svoboda's offense put 31 points against a solid Utah squad, and moved the ball pretty much at will on the ground against Rice. There were other, obvious, troubles in that game (Dohn went into them at length), but hardly enough to justify your conclusions. And the charge of "lacking creativity" doesn't even hold water - the Bruins got into trouble against Rice when they were TOO creative - i.e. going to the pass instead of sticking to a ground game that was obviously working.

Let's give the new crew a few games, shall we?

Can you comment on the progress of Jess Ward since he is now eligible. Thanks

It looks like there are about a dozen scholarship offers on the table right now. Realistically how many scholarships are available this year and who among some of the higher tier recruits do we have a shot at?

Brian, based on your observations from practice, do you see Terrence Austin making an impact (either in the punt return or receiving rotation) before the year is out? I know he was our most highly touted recruit for the 2007 season and I'm eager to see him actually get into the action.

Given all the talk about changing the “attitude” this year, can you share some of your candid observations regarding the relationship between our coaches (specifically, Dorrell, Walker, and Svoboda) and our players? Additionally, what type of dynamic do you see developing with the coaching staff and Dorrell? Thanks.

Why was Yahoo Sports the first one to break the Reggie Bush story and not someone from the local media?

Do you think playing D. Johnson against Utah was a mistake? Doesn't look like he is going to crack the rotation. What is the status of Joe Cowan? Will he redshirt? You are doing a great job Thanks

How come you ask for questions, get seven of them and do not answer any of them?
