Tuesday's tidbits
Spoke with offensive coordinator Jim Svoboda tonight after practice and he took ownership for his play-calling, which he called "conservative.'' I give him a lot of credit for standing around and answering a bundle of questions when he was being criticized so heavily. I wrote more about it for tomorrow's paper.
Other tidbits:
William Snead was moved from DE to TE, mostly because he knew he wasn't going to play at DE. The request came from coach Karl Dorrell, but Snead is excited about it. ...
Cornerback Rondey Van will start against Stanford. ...
Former Bruin Byron Velega was at practice. He is attending El Camino Junior College, but is not playing there. I had a nice chat with him, and he is looking to get back into the Pac 10. He didn't rule out a return to UCLA, although I do not think that will happen. He said he is also being pursued by Washington and Washington State.
One thing about talking with him is he wants people to know he left UCLA for personal reasons, which I spoke about with him, but I don't feel it's appropriate to share at this time. He is more mature and understands things a lot better, it seems, than when he was at UCLA. And so everyone knows, he changed his name. It is now Byron Davenport.

That's an interesting move for Snead. I'm not sure how much PT is at TE either though, with Paulson, Moya and Hair rotating already. That could be interesting though. I look forward to reading some more in the morning.

I don't understand the Snead rationale. He was the first backup to Davis. How can he expect more PT at TE, with Moya and Paulsen already entrenched there, not to mention Heater? Especially since he's already a redshirt junior?
