Wednesday's practice
A few quick notes from practice:
Strong side tackle Aleksey Lanis didn't participate in practice because of tendonitis in his right knee, but coach Karl Dorrell wasn't that concerned about it. His reps were taken by Brian Abraham, who was a starter last season. Lanis is expected to play against Rice.
Backup linebacker Eric McNeal is still waiting to get his grade posted from a spring quarter class. The school thinks it will take place by the end of the week and McNeal will be eligible to play this weekend.
Rice certainly is taking a different approach under new coach Todd Graham. Assistant coaches David Beaty (receivers/passing game coordinator), Todd Dilbeck (offensive line/running game coordinator) and Dean Jackson (tight ends) are all in their first year at the college level after serving as high school coaches.
