Medlock AP All-American
Bruins kicker Justin Medlock was named a first-team all-American by the Associated Press.
"It's a great honor, being at UCLA and continuing the school's tradition of producing All-Americans,'' he said. "I also want to thank my teammates, because this could not have happened without their help, especially my snapper (Riley Jondle) and holder (Patrick Cowan)."

Gonzaga just beat washington by 20 points.
How can you have Washington ranked higher than Gonzaga?

Whoo hoo! An All American kicker, a 13-9 victory over a rebuilding USC team (further ensuring Dorrell will stay around a little longer), and a birth in the prestigious Emerald Bowl...all in the same season! Does it get any better than this being a UCLA Football fan?

Why is it when your team is lock in the National Championship game with no fear of losing to a lowly middle of the pack UCLA, your able to say who needs Lienart and Bush, at USC we just reload? All of a sudden, after a loss to your worst adversary and having to lick the gapping wounds afterwards, you’re able to call it a rebuilding year. Grow up and call it what it is,
PAINFUL

Outcoaching Pete Carroll and his band of merry men, keeping them from the NCS title game - priceless.

Dear sc fan,
Don't be sore because you choked, sorry I mean lost.

Hire Pete Carroll: Go 10-2 against your 2 biggest rivals (Notre Dame and UCLA), coach 3 Heisman Trophy winners, win 2 National Championships, earn 5 BCS Bowl Births, win 5 Pac 10 Championships in a row, have a 58 - 6 record over the last 5 years, AND have myopic Bruin fans calling Pete Carroll overrated and actually believing that a 13-9 upset over a rebuilding USC team has signaled the fall of Troy...that's priceless!
Call it what it is? Okay. A 13-9 loss to an underdog UCLA team is very, very disappointing, especially when you have a National Championship Game on the line. However, painful is losing 66-19 to your rival when you think you have a good team. Painful is watching your crosstown rival return to glory and compete year in and year out in BCS games. Painful is despite the Bruins upsetting USC, USC is still playing in "your house" in THE ROSE BOWL GAME while your team goes to Frisco to play in the prestigious Emerald Bowl. Remember, UCLA’s biggest game every year is the USC Game. USC’s biggest game every year is the BCS Bowl Game after the UCLA Game.
Enjoy your win, enjoy your trip to the Emerald Bowl, enjoy your AP All American Kicker, and then come back to the real world where you still are not a Top 25 Team! See you guys next year at the Coliseum.

Pete Carroll did blah blah blah
Heisman blah blah blah
BCS blah blah blah
Rebuilding year blah blah blah
Sorry man, I'm not losing any sleep about SC's rise to "glory". I could really care less what SC accomplishes.
The only painful thing was losing the rivalry game 7 years in a row. But lucky for us, SC can't count to 8.
Despite the pedigree and accomplishments you still lost to two middle-of-the-road Pac-10 teams. No amount bragging or whining will ever change that.
Posted by: Housebruin at December 13, 2006 02:38 PM
No wonder you aren't losing any sleep over what's going on across town, what kind of fan calls their own team "middle-of-the-road"?...I guess a blah, blah, Bruin fan. I think most Pac 10 fans would rather lose to the occasional middle-of-the-road Pac 10 team than BE the middle-of-the-road Pac 10 team. Enjoy your middle-of-the-road Pac 10 team Bowl Game, while SC enjoys your Rose Bowl...again.

Most good Bruins fans have pride in not having to throw out the big stat and false statements to make a point. We all know what SC has accomplished in the past years. We’re also honest enough to admit when the team did not meet the fans expectations. The truth is our offensive coordination is about as bad as yours, and the team was hurt severely by a lack of solid coaching. This young UCLA team is a good team hurt by bad coaching. Do we have the depth of SC? No. Do we have the coaching prowess of SC? Not yet. Did this team have enough heart to take you out of a National Championship? Absolutely. Why should we let pride get in the way of honesty?
It is what it is…PAINFUL

SC has the #1 recruiting class for 4 straight years and you come here and write that you're "rebuilding"? What a laugh. Really hilarious. You guys have more talent then the rest of the conference combined but it's wasted by Carroll and his coaching staff.
SC should blow out every team they play and go undefeated EVERY YEAR. Maybe the 5 star recruits aren't enough, maybe Carroll needs 6 or 7 star recruits. The 5 stars can sit on the bench or play on the scout team like Stafon Johnson and Allen Bradford. Those kids bought into the lie about competing and playing at SC.
Hey, enjoy the Rose Bowl! I can't wait to watch SC lose another game there.

Bob, don't worry, Lane Kiffin might be available soon to help Dorrell boost that offense. And I will give you the big stats comment...but USC’s football success speaks for itself, which gives me the benefit of not having to make "false statements" to make a point...maybe that is a UCLA football thing.
Jay, with all of the accolades you give USC in your post I am starting to think that you might be a closet USC football fan. However, experience and leadership combined with talent wins games, not talent alone. And when last year's team has 17 players on NFL rosters this year (which include 11 draft pics and 2 former Heisman trophy winners), I think even being in contention for the National Championship is pretty amazing (and going 11-2 or 10-3 with a birth in the Rose Bowl is a great season). Minus the loss to UCLA, this is probably Pete Carroll’s best coaching season yet considering what he lost and what he was working with.
And give me a break Bruins. If UCLA went 10-2 (actually beat Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Cal, and Notre Dame), won the Pac 10, lost to USC, but was still playing in the BCS Rose Bowl Game, that would go down as one of the best seasons at UCLA in the last 20 years. I admit USC got beat by a overlooking a UCLA team with a solid Defense, but I am not the one that appears to be in denial on this Blog, but I am the one that is going to watch my team play in one more game at the Rose Bowl . Like Bob says, it is what it is....PAINFUL isn’t it.

So, this is a rebuilding year? You'll be better next year without Smith & Jarrett? They were your only 2 playmakers this year. I certainly didn't see any playmakers in your backfield this year. Your next best player on offense outside of Smith & Jarrett was Kahlil.
You still have no speed on the DL. You're going to get beat by Michigan and end up not winning any games against top-10 teams this year. We only played one top-10 team this year, and I think you know what happened... We played against you with a QB that can't even throw the ball accurately.
You had a hugely favorable schedule this year. This was your year to win. But, you can keep telling yourself that Kiffin and Booty will lead you to the promised land next year. Carroll won't fire Kiffin - he sided with Lane in the Chow vs. Kiffin debate. He tried to get Kiffin a HC job elsewhere, but he won't fire him.

Greg, I agree with everything you just said in your first paragraph because it supports my previous post. Our playmakers are young and developing. And we will miss Smith and Jarrett.
Since Aikman, when has UCLA ever had a QB that could accurately throw the ball. And unlike myopic Bruin fans, I can admit USC will have to play a flawless game if they want to beat Michigan. But at least USC won the Pac 10 and earned a spot in the Rose Bowl to get the chance at the upset. If UCLA can beat USC at the Rose Bowl, USC can beat Michigan at the Rose Bowl.
And hugely favorable schedule? Bob, is this what you mean by a "false statement to make a point"? Last time I checked, USC had the No.1 strength of schedule all year long until the UCLA game (UCLA pulled us down)? (Amd now SC is No. 2 behind Florida). Games AT Arkansas (SEC #2), Nebraska (Big 12 #2), and then Oregon, Cal, Notre Dame (BCS Team)and AT UCLA all in a row.
I take it back Greg, with that weak schedule we should have gone 12-0 with a new QB, new backfied, new Tight End, and replacing 3 starting linemen. What was I thinkging.

Dear Bruin Fans,
Thank you Bruin Fans for your time. Regrettably, I must leave your Blog now and return to the USC Blog to focus on this year’s Rose Bowl. While you all appear to be slightly delusional as to the status of your crosstown rival, you are far more pleasant to dialogue with than those other UC school fans up North (and even some of the bandwagon USC fans that never even attended USC). Congratulations on your big win, and we will speak again in November 2007 when the order in the City is properly restored. Represent the Pac 10 well in the Emerald Bowl because a loss to a bad Florida State team would make USC’s loss to UCLA even that much more painful for us Trojans.

Dear Loser USC Fan,
Not only are your posts very entertaining and funny, they also give us a bird's eye view into the mind of a frustrated, delusional, trOJan fan that is desperately trying to justify one of the most PAINFUL losses in USC history by trying to feel good about a LOSERS game in the Rose Bowl that nobody cares about or wants to go to.
You seriously are very entertaining. The only thing that matters is the fact that SUC was COMPLETELY shutdown by UCLA with a backup QB that no other team recruited, along with the starting TE and WR out for the season and a mediocre at best offense this year. Deal with it! None of the other stuff that you embellish matters.

Where did you play your tough games? Arkansas was an aberration because McFadden was injured and they had their old, ineffective QB playing that game. It's a different game with McFadden and their new QB. You guys could not play well away from the Coliseum. You did fine at home, but you struggled on the road. That's why it was a favorable schedule. Next year, you'll play at Cal, at Oregon, at ND, at Nebraska, etc.
