I would like to say I have a warm fuzzy about this acquisition, but it still seems like management is willing to put a coach in the OC position with little or no play calling experience. So the Dorrell one-year training plan for coaches continues.

With that said, Callahan thought highly enough about Jay Norvell to bring Jay with him from the Raiders. The Huskers were able to improve offensively every year as Callahan’s WCO recruits grew in numbers. They’ve represented and played better opponents in bowl games unlike the Bruins playing and losing to Fresno, Wyoming, and a 6-6 Florida State.

At UCLA no rebuilding needs to be done. The WC offensive scheme and players are in place. If Jay can open things up and be about ten times more creative than last years debacle, who knows?

Hopefully someone has explained to him this head coach will always play for field goal and never go for it on forth and one, and if the Bruins have the lead at half time, management will ask him to get conservative to run the clock out.

I welcome Jay to the Bruin family. I hope he does a great job here. I hope he has the ability to survive more than one season. All I have is hope, the same hope I’ve had for the last decade. Keep your head up, but don’t be afraid to duck when the time is right.
