McCarthy update
I just got off the phone with former UCLA receivers coach D.J. McCarthy, who accepted the receivers coaching job a LSU. He said a big reason for the move is off the football field, and the quality of life for his family.
"If and when we make it to a BCS bowl, I'll have a chance to double my UCLA salary,'' McCarthy said. "That's why coach (Karl) Dorrell has lost a lot of good coaches.''
McCarthy made $130,000 last season, and is guaranteed well above that at LSU. Also, McCarthy and his wife have three children, and will be able to live a stone's throw from the LSU campus. At UCLA, like so many of the assistant football coaches, McCarthy's commute was more than 30 miles.
Also, we are still experiencing problems with blog responses. In fact, we are not getting them. The issue is being worked on, but I have no idea when it will be fixed. However, once it is fixed, I will let everyone know.

Just a little inside info about the cost of living in Baton Rouge:
Typically assistant coaches and their wives choose to live in the Riverbend subdivision or University Club, where the cost of real estate is typically between 120 and 150 a square foot. I'd imagine that is significantly less than that of SoCal.

This is surprising, and then it is not. I wonder: would you post a list of some of the "good" coaches we might have kept if their salaries were more competitive?

It just goes to show you how out of control this train wreck is when coaches are willing to leave for far off places just to get away. This coach know he wants to be part of something special.
This coach wants to coach in front of 90,000 screaming fans, rather than the 40,000 mannequins afraid to get off their ass and make a little noise at the Rose Bowl. That's right, I'm calling out the Alumni with all the cash. When your team is on defense, get off your ass and make noise!!!
This coach knows this train wreck has a one way ticket to the Fresno Bowl rather than a legitimate shot at a BCS bid.
This coach knows if he wants job satisfaction and decent pay, it's time to hit the road like all the other coaches before him.
Coach McCarthy smells what's Bruin in the Nation. When is Dan G. going to finally catch a whiff of it? I'll answer my own question, not only does Dan smell it, he has the nasty taste in his mouth.
Hopefully after this season, the mandatory five year quota is finished and we can find a staff that has the desire and commitment to once again be champions.

From what I've read and heard, McCarthy is an excellent receivers coach and an excellent recruiter. Hope he can develop some of our young talented receivers. Good Luck to the Bruins in 07/08. Hope you dog USC again!!!!

Halarious.... your coaches don't even have faith in the program. They even know there's no BCS game in UCLA's future!! HAAA!
