WR coach update
I talked to several sources over the weekend who said Eric Scott was getting a great look and will interview for UCLA's receiver's coaching spot. Scott, the former UCLA receiver and Crenshaw High offensive coordinator, spent last season as a part-time intern with the UCLA football program.
Scott also is getting strong support from people within the football program, including coaches and players, sources told me. For what it's worth, I think Scott would be a tremendous addition to the staff. He's young, energetic, personable and smart, and has all the makings of being a great recruiter.

I've heard nothing but good things about Scott. Apparently he has a lot of connections with inner-city high schools and Crenshaw, which has grown into a great UCLA pipeline school. He sounds like just the right guy for the job. Dorrell should be able to give him some guidance as a WR coach too, since he has coached that position in the NFL.
With Scott and Walker recruiting, our 2008 class should be very good!

Eric Scott may be a great choice, however, my concern is our turnover at the coaching positions. UCLA needs to find a way to pay the assistants better and house them close to campus.

My initial thoughts were, I am so sick of this regime training coaches for the future. For goodness sake, the head coach is still in training. After a glass or four of wine, I'm thinking what the heck. Eric's a homeboy, he's used to low wages, he has the inner city connects, if he lived in LA his whole life he's use to not having any quality of life, and it will be hard to blame someone right out of high school coaching. This guy might be a valueble commodity for the new head coach in 08.
Brian, I don't see you give recommendations all that often, you make this guy sound like the kind of guy this staff has missed since Bienemy left. Besides Coach Walker, there are so many unknowns with this coaching staff, I hope your right about this guy. Karl has a problem, things have gotten so out of hand with the carousel of coaching changes, no matter what he does he's going to be lambasted.
I'm rootin' for this guy. I'll welcome Coach Scott with open arms, just like I welcomed the other 34 coaches that have come and gone in the last five years. Feel free to correct the number, I'm on my sixth glass of wine.

Hey Brian,
Do you know of any other coaches that are interviewing for the wide receiver spot at UCLA?
Posted by: CPBF at February 27, 2007 10:03 AM
more of the same. former wr coach dj mccarthy was supposed to be the great recruiter and the great fit. what happened to that after just one year? dorrell is back to the "no experience necessary" hiring criteria. if he ran a great training program for coaches at least he could boast about that, but none of dorrell's protoges, if you can call them that, have done anything. our football program has become a joke.

UCLA pipeline! There's a good one! The only pipeline UCLA has is one out of town for coaches looking to be part of a real program and the runoff from kids too afraid to compete for a spot against real men at SC - ie Doughboy Price...

Apparently Brian feels the need to censor this blog... I imagine he feels UCLA fans are too fragile to hear the truth.
Brian - why do you censor my friend? Afraid you'll lose the 3 people reading this blog?

Censoring? What are you talking about?
Posted by: Brian Dohn at February 27, 2007 06:04 PM
KD´s coaches get lifted by nfl teams and other universities because he can´t compete when it comes to salary. D.J. himself said he can earn twice his ucla salary at lsu.
now trolie, why resort to talking poorly of the recruits pom pom couldn´t get away from the bruins? he wanted them dearly and couldn´t get them. I know it´s hard, but try being a man.
By the way, the chances of any kid who hasn´t even played a down of college ball actually making waves in the nfl someday are minimal. So, the wide eyed recruits that fall for the "you´re not a man if you don't want to compete with 9 other all american Tail Backs" b.s. really aren´t being guided well by their coaches and parents.
Posted by: Michael at February 27, 2007 06:45 PM
No way will he hire a hs coach for that position.
That would be crazy, bring scott over as a GA let him get his masters and learn the ropes.
Recruiting is much more them connections in the inner city. Experience is what we need, not a training position for the future.
Posted by: mike morgan at February 27, 2007 08:01 PM
looks like Danny Farmers old WR coach from the Bengals is in the mix. He is the real deal as a wr coach and a recruiter.
Posted by: mike morgan at February 27, 2007 08:03 PM
SC has real men ? Malathuga beats up SC students, Eric Wright deals drugs/rapes coeds, Dominic Byrd hits a guy in the face with a bottle, Saban makes Manuel Wright cry at Dolphins camp, Frostee Rucker beats up girlfriend, Winston Justice picks up hookers and threatens students with a fake gun, Troy Van Blarcom is too stupid to pass Ballroom Dancing 101, the Tings were taking steroids and probably supplying half your team, your mascot is a mythic warrior figure that most likely engaged in pedophilia, your coach questions the character of a kid who had two brothers murdered as if Carroll could ever imagine what it is like to walk in Brian Price's shoes.
SC fan, go back to your board or whatever is that you do because you're a joke.

bruinchump!
Interesting seeing you on this website, I thought you spent all your time fantasying about being a Trojan and worshiping our (that includes you bc) football team... I understand, this is boring blog and your team is joke but don't act all high and mighty when we both know you spend most of your day reading up on OUR Trojan football. Excellent email about future Trojan DJ Shoemate today. I see you and I both find he'll make a great addition to OUR program.
So what do you talk about on this site? How's the bruin women's volleyball team this year? They do better then 7-6 most years don't they?
OK I'm bored, tell me more about future USC 5 star recruits? I know you know!!!

Jay - You are living in a glass house buddy. Ricky Manning, Tyler Ebell, Maurice Jones-Drew, John Hale, Jess Ward - all arrested on felony assault charges. Medlock - DUI and running away from the scene of an accident while he left his injured female passenger. And if you want to talk about character how about Sam Gilbert, Jim Harrick, Jaron Rush or any of the updtanding young Bruin Football players that drove around with Handicap Placards? Are these Real Bruin Men? And don’t give me that typical Bruin response...well the charges were dropped....or there is no proof response. It works both ways...OJ was found not guilty. Okay you got us on “alleged” murders!
Bruinchump - All bite and no bark.
Brian - To censor means to "exercise control over something: to suppress or control something that may offend or harm others". Kind of like when I responded to an attack on Marc Tyler by a bunch of Bruins...and you sent me an email that said that this is not Scott’s Blog and that you would not put my post up.
Rothstar - I couldn’t resist.
Thanks for letting me join the discussion!
...this post was not edited unless Brian finds it offensive and harmful and it has been censored.

For all SC fans, you need to deal with the reality that after this year's hoop championship, the Bruins will have posted 100 NCAA titles. That's right, a well rounded 100. Until changes are made with our football leadership, most Bruins fans realize we survive on hope. This is the same hope that punked you guys out of a National title last year. Watch your backs, it may happen again in '07. In the meantime we'll continue to dominate on the hardwood. Same as it ever was.
Cheers

A university is not responsible for players that have long since moved on from its school. Manning had graduated from ucla years ago. Ebell had already graduated from UTEP when the incident occured. And, if you know ANYTHING, you know that MJD wouldn't hurt a fly. He was wrongly accused and never close to being arrested. Hale and Ward were involved in an altercation trying to get people out of Ward's parents home. The ONLY embarrasing incident was Medlock, but at least KD dealt with the problem head on and honestly not like Pom Pom. Don't compare thugs like Wright, Malauga, Justice, or Rucker to ANYONE on the UCLA football team. Your football team is full of barely qualifying, if that, students and criminals. Buty, hey you one 1 national championship for selling your souls.
Thanks for the attmept.
Cheers,
Scoreboard!

Bob,
99 NCAA Championships are pretty amazing, but I will take USC's 11 Football National Championships (and 7 Heismans) over UCLA's 99 NCAA titles in various sports any day.
The B-Ball Championships are impressive, but how many of the 99 Championships were in Football?
USC has won 106 total team National Championships, 86 which are NCAA National Championships to UCLA’s 120 National Championships, 99 of which are NCAA National Championships. So don’t act like USC has an empty trophy case.
PS - This thread is about football! But while we are on the subject, despite the fact that you have a very good team, I wouldn’t count your chickens until the eggs have hatched (you saw what happened to USC in Football when they started to look ahead and overlook inferior teams).
And how many of those 99 championships have you won in B-Ball since 1995?...I will tell you...ZERO.

Michael, Denial ain't the name of a river in Egypt. They were all groomed when they were at UCLA (along with that Bruin B-Ball player that transferred to Fresno State and attacked someone with a sword!). And Maurice WAS arrested for assault...period! And if he did not do anything wrong, maybe he should choose to hang out with a better crowd. And using your logic OJ must be innocent too...yeah right!

at March 1, 2007 01:37 PM
I wanted to stay above this fray but I can't let ignorance pass by.
The kid who transferred to Fresno State was Avandre Jones, a McDonald's All-American from Artesia. He was a Trojan first (not a Bruin).
Posted by: Shane at March 1, 2007 01:47 PM
Bob -
You fail to mention that a fair number of those 99 titles came in sports that most other universities did not have at the time.
Congratulations on being early on the womens softball, gymnastics, and soccer bandwagon.

UCLA's basketball championships are as dusty as an Iraqi in a sandstorm... All but one were won when barely anyone on this blog was born. And as for that '95 championship, it's getting really dusty as well. I wouldn't start thinking your precious basketball is so great until it wins something in this decade. Till then it's still a has-been program that's riding the coattails of one coach's run.
Posted by: Anonymous at March 1, 2007 06:04 PM
What happened to Bruinchump? I guess he's still spending most, err all of his time reading up on SC football. Way to call someone out BChump and then run away into a hole!! HA!

Michael -
Yes, congrats on your mighty 13-9 "scoreboard" victory last Dec... Big ups, little man. One small problem, while it hurt us for one game and we'll bounce back as we did in the Rose Bowl (the game, not the stadium. See they play a game there on the Jan 1 every year, ah never mind...), your winning that game just bought you at least 3-5 more years with Karl Dullard and 31st ranked recruiting classes. Which is great news for SC fans! He's your Steve Lavin, wins just barely enough to keep his job but at the end of it all, he's won nothing at all...
Congrats again on the big win and SCOREBOARD!!

Rex
I"m not sure you understand the term well rounded. I'll explain it in a more simplified fashion so you may understand. It's ok for student athletes to compete in sports other than football. Countries outside of the US love the sport of soccer. Japan, Cuba and Mexico play baseball. Europe has it's own pro basketball leagues, and the world trains athletes to compete in the Olympics.
ie. Jackie Robinson
At UCLA it's more about being a well rounded individual.
At USC it's about who can shove their male alpha crap into everyone's business.
By the way isn't there more important issues at SC, like finding out who the hell lopped off Orenthal's ex-wife's noggin. Focus!!!
Cheers
Posted by: Bob at March 1, 2007 07:39 PM
What a fantastic non-response to my point, Bob.
No opposition to being "well rounded". It's about claiming championships in sports that other schools don't even participate in and acting like that makes up for your crappy JV football team.

Guys, those guys that ended up at other schools like UTEP ans San Jose St. ended up there because the school either ran them off, or they couldn't hack it at UCLA. No, UCLA is not responsible for their behaviour. And, no I don't blame Pom Pom for OJ's murderous binge. I do call him out because of Wright, Malauga, Justice, Rucker, etc. You can't compare the behavour of CURRENT UCLA players to what is going on at SC. Medlock was a black eye, but it was delt with honestly and openly.
As far as recruiting, don't be simple minded. We had 10 rides to give. On a per player basis, it was a top 5 class in the country. And, KD must be a great recruiter, we had as many or more freshaman all americans and all-americans than SC. Why is that? Obviousely KD and his staff know something about talent evaluation that pom pom doesn't. Pom Pom just wants to read his own press and that's why he overrecruits at certain positions so he can win recruiting championships. Having 9 Scholarship TB's on the team is rediculous. It's overboard. Do you really believe that having so much talent sitting on the bench isn't going to bit you guys in the backside sooner rather than later???

SUC fan's get a life! Until your school can start representing this year in SOMETHING, shut up. You all act like blind, inferior little kids. You suck, always have, always will! Go wallow in your NOTHING b-ball program for awhile. BTW, nice game against sorry Washington last night and ASU a couple weeks ago! Your school is a laughing stock to anyone that is not a thug or a future/current criminlal.

“Obviously KD and his staff know something about talent evaluation...” - Michael
Obviously..... dude you are too funny! What they know is that all of those 5 Star Players on the top of their wish list that they would like to see in powder blue keep going to USC...even during a year that UCLA actually beat USC!
PS - Congrats on your No. 5 Recruiting Class! I know it is almost the weekend, but aren’t you hitting the bottle a little early today?

Dave - Like your fellow Bruin alum Tuesday night, you are NOT smarter than a 5th Grader!
You talk like a big boy, but can’t back it up. i.e.... “Until your school can start representing this year in SOMETHING” - You mean like losing in the Emerald Bowl versus winning another Pac 10 Championship and BCS Rose Bowl Game?
I am going to give you a little homework assignment for you to do before you can come back on this Blog and write more nonsense. Go look up and tell the rest of us how many Pac 10 Football Championships USC has won and how many BCS Games USC has played in since 2000, and then compare that number to how many Pac 10 Basketball Championships UCLA has won and how many Final Four appearances UCLA has made since 2000.
“your NOTHING b-ball program” - Actually, UCLA and USC have won the same amount of NCAA Basketball Championships this Century...ZERO.
What I find funny is how our NOTHING b-ball program (which will finish 2nd or 3rd in the PAC 10 this year and is NOT the No. 1 Sport at USC) is competing with UCLA for the same recruits these days.
Regardless, good luck in the NCAA Tourney...maybe if you actually win a Championship this year, UCLA will muster up the funds to build you a big and shiny new Basketball Arena like the Galen Center.

I'm amazed at the direction this story has taken. What started as a tidbit about a third tier high school coach, has turned into who's sporting the best gangstas.
As for well rounded, although your overall athletic program is not very good, your song girls are hot. Props to the gals.
Rothstar, I beg you to start a pro Dorrel web site, the anti Dorrel sites are not succeeding. If it take's SC fans to get Dan Guerrero's attention, what the hell.
I've enjoyed the banter with my friends from down south, you've made things interesting. I always welcome the banter.

genius JJ, just plain genius....
Oh wait, I gotta go, SC just signed another 5 star recruit that I'm sure UCLA didn't want. They're happy with their 10 star (4 and 3 stars mind you) studed recruits. And don't give me that nonsense that SC desperately wanted Price, sure we would have taken him just mess with you, but at the end of the day would you rather have Everson Griffen, Joe Mcknight, Marc Tyler, etc etc or Brian Price... hmmm... I'm sure UCLA didn't want any of those guys! Quality over quanity is the same line you dorks used in high school when you couldn't get laid...as for SC, it's quality and quanity.
Top 5 recruiting class! Ha! Nice spin bruin, nice spin...
Hey JJ, pass the koolaid!

So Rothstar did all the ugly chicks in high school and JJ actually watches the show "smarter than a 5th grader". The more time you guys spend on this board, the more pitiful you sound. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for your insecurity issues. Why don't you keep on topic on why you SUC in everything this year! One word baby, SCOREBOARD! I for one, am not jealous about any of the SUC bile that you type into this blog. SUC is for thugs and social/ethical losers! Enjoy the tournament sitting at home after the 1st round!
Posted by: Dave at March 2, 2007 06:12 PM
sc#2 - "40+ years" wow, I did not know Pauley was THAT old! Maybe you will get a new arena within the NEXT 40 years. And exactly how many times has UCLA got out of the 2nd round this century?
Dave - Apparently you watched the show too b/c you understood the reference. More importantly, the point that you missed was that a Bruin Grad actually COMPETED on that show...and could not answer one elementary school level question...that is pitiful! And you are right about one thing, USC wil enjoy both the BCS and March Madness this year!
