Aboya update

UCLA coach Ben Howland said reserve center/power forward Alfred Aboya, who missed Saturday’s loss at Washington, had his left knee examined since returning to Los Angeles and is expected to play Thursday in the opening round of the Pac-10 tournament.

Good news. Thanks for the update.

On a tangent: have you heard anything about any backlash from Afflalo's postgame comments last Saturday. In reading your article, it sounds like Afflalo was frustrated with the team, but was still being sure to remind others that Darren Collison won a lot of games for the team, and that Collison alone should not be blamed for the loss.

However, in reading the Times' piece, it seemed as though Afflalo were signling Collison out, and clearly blaming him for bad shots, not doing his job, etc.

Given your years covering UCLA sports, I am far more inclined to rely on your coverage on a regular basis. The Times' quotes of Afflalo seemed (to my unprofessional eye) to be shorter and less thorough than those used in the Daily News.

Has there been any word from the team or the coaches regarding the apparent differences in the Times' piece?

This is actually being disucssed on at least two different online Bruin fan boards. I would appreciate your insights, if you have the time.

Thanks again for your reliable and steady coverage and analysis of the Bruin teams.

Thanks,
MIM

All I can say about it is we were both there for the entire Afflalo interview, and I don't believe he talked again after he met with a group of reporters after the game. Knowing Arron, I do not believe he was calling out Darren. Arron is not like that, I don't believe he thinks that way, and nothing in the three years I covered him would leave me to believe he was calling Collison out.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. Some fans, including myself, are obviously very excited and anxious this time of year. Your coverage was reassuring.

Thanks again for always keeping a close eye on UCLA Sports. As a two-time alum (undergrad and grad school) and a season ticket holder since 95, I appreciate your insight and diligence.

Keep doing what you do. Best wishes from a member of the BruinsNation.com blog site.

Regards,
MIM
