Let me get this straight. Having your A$$ handed to you in a 4th rate bowl, held in a baseball stadium no less, and finishing 7-6 gets your AD an award?

I might be mistaken but didn’t Dan turn around the basketball program with the firing of Lavin and the hiring of Coach Howland? With the exception of one win last season, there hasn’t been much joy in football-land over the last four years. I hope the reason he was honored wasn’t because he’s willing to live with a mediocrity to keep a coach around. If things don’t go right this year Dan will need to keep the promises he made to the Bruin faithful with a not so tough football decision. Even his patience must be wearing thin.
This is the year, now let’s get her done.

The NACDA gave Dan the AT-AD-OY for the FBS category? What the heck is all that gibberish? Who makes these things up?

This appears to be the same organization that presents the Sears or Director's Cup to the college(s) that accumulates the most points for athletic excellence within their division every year. Stanford with their 34 or so men's and women's D1 sports has a near stanglehold on this award for D1.
Some of the criteria for the award that Guerrero won along with 29 or so others are as follows:
Demonstrate a commitment to higher education and student-athletes.
Demonstrate continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence.
Demonstrate a commitment to continuing education for the athletics administrative staff.
Demonstrate the ability to inspire individuals or groups to high levels of accomplishment.
Demonstrate leadership and/or significant outreach for the betterment of youth and/or the local community.
Show leadership on the regional and/or national levels through serving on (1) NACDA committees; (2) NCAA, NAIA or junior/community college committees; (3) other athletics committees (NACWAA, USOC, AAU, etc.).
Not be or have been the athletics director at an institution that is or has been placed on probation or cited for a lack of institutional control at his/her current or previous institution in the past five (5) academic years.

Inglewood,
No one is questioning Dan G’s commitment to all the accolades you’ve provided. The mere insinuation he is being honored for anything to do with the program that takes the field on Saturdays, baffled me. The football bowl subdivision title is a tad misleading. My bad.
I do question Dan’s commitment to all the Bruin faithful who endured the last four years. Anyone who watches Bruin football closely knows how bad the seasons were bungled. Bungled; screwed up by insane conservative coaching. Everyone realized early, this coach was in over his head, but Dan said give him time to grow. After four seasons of the same insane play calling, time management and over all decision making, most of us are fed up and very frustrated. He won’t admit it publicly, but Dan is also fustrated.
In the Midwest, the coaches don’t talk about winning Big 12 championships or beating their rivals, they expect to play for a crystal football. I have the same expectations for the Bruins, win every game and play in the National Championship. It worries me when the highest expectation of your AD and coach is to win the PAC 10. Like the last four seasons, I will root for Karl to get it done. After the last four seasons, I have very little confidence we will win eight games, even with 20 starters returning.
I guarantee, with half the talent of the Bruins, Weiss will out coach Karl one more time. ND 21 UCLA 10

Bob -
Can you define "this is the year...get it done"? What qualifies as success this season? PAC-10 champ, MNC, what? Just curious.

A successful season from 1 to 10
1. 0 losses and a BCS Championship (A SUCCESSFUL SEASON)
2. PAC10 Championship / Go to the Rose Bowl
3. Beat SC / have 1 loss to ND / go to a BCS bowl game
4. Beat SC
5. Beat ND
6. Win nine games
7. Win 60% of the games
8. Beat BYU and Utah
9. Go to the Emerald bowl and get beat by San Jose State
10. Get a new coach
#1 is not out of the question with 20 returning starters. (A SUCCESSFUL SEASON)
#2 is realistic with 20 returning starters.
#3 should have been reality last season.
#4 was reality last year
#5 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
#6 Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! I’m starting to get pissed.
#7 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I am pissed.
#8 Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! I have yet to get the 06 Rice game out of my mind.
#9 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Someone get me medication.
#10 in many ways, also (A SUCCESSFUL SEASON) the meds are kicking in.
Don’t get me wrong, like all the other seasons; I’m still rooting for Karl to accomplish #1,2, and 3. Props for squeaking out #4 last season.
