Eric Scott arrested

UCLA receivers coach Eric Scott is facing suspension, and a possible firing, after he and two other men were arrested and charged with felony residential burglary Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
Scott was booked at 1:07 p.m. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released at 9:25 p.m., according to an arrest report.
“He was brought to Norwalk station and booked on residential burglary and bonded out,’’ said Tera White, the LASD’s station watch commander. “Deputies were called (to a house). It was a call for service. It wasn’t an observation on deputies’ part. They were called there by neighbors.’’
White said two other men, Jesus DeAlba and Timothy Williams, were also arrested. Scott, 32, was hired as UCLA’s receivers coach in March, and was making a big impact in recruiting. He served last season as an intern in the football office after joining his alma mater. Previously, he served as the offensive coordinator at Crenshaw High.
White said Scott’s next court date was not yet known.

How can this be possible, is Eric that stupid to risk the oppertunity he has been given and the upside that was potentially there for him? I am hoping that this is huge misunderstanding and will be cleared up, I would like to believe that Eric is smarter than this.

Brian

I sent you, and all Pac-10 press, an email this morning about Media Day tomorrow. Obviously, this will be a focus of the questions you will ask Dorrell, if you are going to be there. I still think that other important questions should be asked (please reference the email). But this obviously calls into question Dorrell's hiring process and the successful recruiting Scott has achieved so quickly and so early in his tenure.

I'd heard from people that Scott was a thug while at Crenshaw high. He got in trouble while there for doing stuff that a 32 year old should know better than to do. Guess my sources were right.
This would be a big loss as Scott has been huge in giving UCLA an inroads to all the talent in the LA Inner City.
Bonehead move.

And you guys go nuts because Leinart *only* bought his baby's momma a new car, gave her $3000 a month, and visited the kid weekly. Lolz.

Posted by: matthew [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2007 10:31 AM

He is far from a thug. Thugs don't have masters degrees and attend Northwestern. I'm sure things will get cleared up.

Posted by: scottielew [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2007 11:55 AM

He may not be a thug.

But he is now another problem for UCLA. He has brought shame to the university.

Why is it that so many criminal stories emanate from the UCLA football program.

This is a disgrace!

Posted by: Ex-Sportswriter [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2007 12:26 PM

At least he didnt kill his wife, and attend his alma maters football practices.

Posted by: Anonymous at July 25, 2007 12:52 PM

"So many criminal stories?" What stories are you talking about Mr. Ex-sportswriter?

Posted by: scottielew [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2007 12:54 PM

Billy Don Jackson: Graduated from UCLA with a degree, then was arrested a few years later and was discovered to not even be able to write his name

Justin Medlock: Drunk driving, leaving the scene of an accident

Ricky Manning: Punches out a helpless UCLA student in Westwood, then flees the scene; Tyler Ebell and Maurice Jones Drew reportedly took part in the attack

John Hale: Arrested for felony assault

Jess Ward: Arrested for felony assault

Junior Lemau'u: Charged with armed robbery

Sam Gilbert: Gave thousands of dollars in illegal aid to UCLA basketball players during the John Wooden era, yet went unpunished by the NCAA

This is a public university funded by our tax money - we should expect more from the athletes who represent the school.

Posted by: Ex-Sportswriter [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2007 01:47 PM

Now I see why you are an ex sportswriter. Sam Gilbert was a student? Wasn't Lemau'u kicked out of school before the "robbery?" Could you put dates on those incidents? So many stories...you are dating back 30 years! What's going on at SDSU, Cal, UC Irvine, etc...since you play the tax dollars card!

Colombo mobster Dominick (Donny Shacks) Montemarano settled in Beverly Hills in 1996 after his release from federal prison, Montemarano gravitated towards UCLA football players and regularly invited them to his apartment for Monday Night Football parties.
Montemarano flew to New York with star UCLA quarterback Cade McNown in December and served as a Big Apple tour guide for the Heisman Trophy finalist during the Heisman weekend -- that is, after he got permission from federal probation officials.

Billy Don Jackson: An admitted drug abuser, he pleaded no contest to a 1982 charge of voluntary manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of a drug dealer. The judge at his sentencing hearing described Jackson, one of the most talented athletes UCLA had ever recruited, as a "functional illiterate," even though Jackson had spent nearly three years at the university.

Cory Paus: Arrested TWICE for Drunken Driving

Robert Thomas - Fourteen UCLA football players were charged with illegally obtaining handicapped parking placards in 1999 so they could avoid paying parking fees. Nine UCLA football players pleaded no contest to illegally possessing handicapped parking permits and were fined $500 each, put on two years' probation and ordered to perform community service with the disabled.

Ricky Manning (again): Charged with two counts of felony assault in 2002

UCLA football assistant arrested

12:40 PM PDT on Wednesday, July 25, 2007

By KEVIN PEARSON
The Press-Enterprise

UCLA wide receivers coach Eric Scott was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of residential burglary in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

Scott, 32, was hired in March to coach the wide receivers following a one-year term as a graduate assistant coach with the program. A former UCLA wide receiver, Scott was already well-respected within the program and was considered a key piece in UCLA's recruiting team.

According to Watch Commander Tera White of the Norwalk Division, Scott and two other accomplices were arrested at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 11,000 block of Pioneer Avenue in Norwalk after a neighbor called police informing them of suspicious activities. Scott and the two other men -- Timothy Williams and Jesus DeAlba, both 23 -- were arrested and held on a $50,000 bond.

Scott posted bond several hours after his arrest and was released, White said.

UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell and athletic director Dan Guerrero were both unavailable for comment on Wednesday morning. Both are expected to be at Thursday's Pacific-10 Conference media day in Los Angeles.

"The UCLA Athletic Department is currently gathering information regarding the situation involving assistant football coach Eric Scott," the school said in a press release Wendesday morning. "Until we have all of the facts available to us, it is premature for us to comment."

Scott played at UCLA from 1995-97 after transferring from Northwestern. He finished his three-year Bruin career with 27 receptions for 372 yards, including 14 catches in 1995.

A former prep All-American at Crenshaw High School, Scott served as an assistant at the inner-city school for seven seasons and coached a handful of current UCLA players, including linebacker Reggie Carter and incoming freshmen Brian Price and Raymond Carter.

Scott spent last season as an office intern at UCLA, helping break down video of opponents as well as handling other administrative duties. When former wide receivers coach D. J. McCarthy left in February to accept a similar position at LSU, Scott was promoted to his current position following a national search.

"Eric is an up-and-coming talent in this profession," Dorrell said at the time of the hiring. "He has a great sense of evaluating talent and developing skill players to reach their potential."

Hey Scottie Loser:

Sam Gilbert of course was NOT a student at UCLA.

But he sure broke DOZENS AND DOZENS of NCAA rules and regulations by giving all that ILLEGAL FREE STUFF to UCLA basketball players during the Wooden era!

THE UCLA BASKETBALL PROGRAM WOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE NCAA DEATH PENALTY if the rules were applied then, as they are now!

Try passing a Reading Comprehension test before you make your obviously bone-headed comments next time! Read, think, then talk, OK?

Posted by: Ex-Sportswriter [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2007 02:08 PM

hey idiot ex-sportswriter

how did your sam gilbert rant "emenate from the UCLA football program"?

and you're attacking others on reading comp?

get a clue, moron.

Posted by: Anonymous at July 25, 2007 02:17 PM

Ucla is a bunch of criminals! You have changed my mind ex writer! Since your search as gone back 40 years, I was wondering what was the student activity during the Red Sanders years? So many stories? Mr. Ex Writer...why don't you write the governor or the AD. Maybe you can get your job back...good luck!

Posted by: scottielew [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 25, 2007 02:22 PM

Hey Loser, I don't need my job back! I have my own business now after 30+plus years as a professional sports writer! I have covered Super Bowls, NBA Championships, all forms of professional and collegiate sports ... I have met both the Governor and the AD, so I guess I've already had a huge chunk of good luck in my life, unlike yourself!

With that in mind, I wish you luck, since obviously you seem to be in desperate need of it!

Thanks for showing us that even a fool can appear to be successfull.

Posted by: Ex-Editor at July 25, 2007 02:51 PM

Hey Anonymous:

I do have a clue.

That is because I know how to spell "emanate."

Maybe you need a course not only in Reading Comprehension, but Basic Spelling 101, too. Maybe you should try passing the High School Equivalency test before you try posting on a blog that everybody in the world can read, and see that you make yourself out to be an idiot?

It also wouldn't hurt if you read a book about how to use capital letters when you type.

If I am a moron, as you claim, I guess that makes you less than a moron.

Ex-Editor:

I appreciate your style and wit. Touche!

It's refreshing to know there are still a few out there (like yourself) who can use words skillfully and get their point across, without lowering themselves to name-calling.

Besides, I learned long ago never to argue with my editor. Enjoyed the comeback!

I guess this where the sad and lonely spend their afternoon.

I'll fit right in.

Ex-sportswriter is a SC homer.

Posted by: Anonymous at July 25, 2007 03:50 PM

And Eric Scott is a thief.

Posted by: Anon at July 25, 2007 07:08 PM

Ex-sportswriter,

Wow, that's great you have your eye on UCLA looking for every misstep we take. Since I have no life, much like yourself, I've compiled my own SC criminal list (some may not have been convicted, but thats okay since you've included people that had their charges dropped on your list).

1. Double murderer OJ.

2. Reggie Bush receiving improper gifts of money, airline tixs, hotel stays, clothes, and a weekly stipend on top his parents living rent free off of Mike Ornstein. SC fans and Bush can deny all they want, but Ornstein has his dad on tape.

3. Pete Caroll and his illegal recruiting methods to get Joe McKnight. The kid and his high school coack said he spoke to Reggie Bush in a teleconference set up by Caroll, but SC hushed him up. How about sending a limo to pick up recruit Brian Price(chose UCLA) who already refused to go, which is against NCAA policy.

4. Todd Marinovich. The NFL dropped him after several incidences involving drugs. Even worst, the Canadian Football League then the Arena League ended up dropping him as well. It was only SC that never dropped the drug fiend.

5. SC players who love to sexually assault women because they can't get any. Backup QB Mark Sanchez. CB Eric Wright. TB Hershel Dennis. TE Antoine Harris. Darrell Russell who drugged a woman and raped her. Anyway, you get he point.

I could go on and on including the wife beaters and steroid users, but I do have more important matters to attend to.

Posted by: BruinBry at July 25, 2007 07:27 PM

Don't forget about Frostee Rucker ,who transferred to SC following a sexual assualt, who had another one in the NFL

Posted by: Anonymous at July 25, 2007 08:16 PM

Hmmm. So UCLA football players lie/cheat to get parking and SC rapes women. I can see why some say UCLA has a problem. I'd go party with those criminally insane Bruin players any day.

Eric Scott did not do this. He was outside a friend's house visiting and while speaking on the phone with his mother the cops stop and arrested him, his cousin and the friend he was visiting. Eric has no reason to rob anyone, he makes plenty of money. The cops were suppose to be looking for 4 men, but rather 2 black men and a hispanic is good enough for the cops I guess. Cops will arrest anyone just because it makes them feel big and bad.

those who are throwing eric over board, need to understand this, he is an outstanding young man. He is very very smart. While at crenshaw look and see how many kids that he personally took under his wing and made them men. I once told him that I thought that he was unduely harsh on his players and he explained that most if not all kids in his community have no father figure, no one to set them straight , no one to guide them no one to tell them there is another choice besides the gang life style(his brother was murdered in a gang related homicide). If he has to be hard on them to show them the right choices so be it. There is not a chance in hell that eric was involved in a criminal act . He has made the world a better place by guiding his player through the pitfalls of living in the inner city. How many of you haters can say that? remember the duke case and remember that in america one is presumed innocent til proven guilty .But for all you haters to hell w/ the contitution. This is a great young man and ucla was lucky to nab him.
