A practice ouch

UCLA's quarterbacking corps took a potential hit when backup Patrick Cowan pulled up lame during a drill toward the end of practice. It was an injury to his left hamstring, although the degree of it won't be known until today. However, Cowan was pulled out of the rest of the drill by coach Karl Dorrell, and walk-on McLeod Bethel-Thompson finished it.
If Cowan is out, Bethel-Thompson will be Ben Olson's backup.
In other news, Dorrell confirmed that Matt Slater and Kahlil Bell would be the kick returns, and Terrence Austin and Alterraun Verner would split time returning punts.
Also, Jerzy Siewierski's grandfather remains in the hospital in stable but critical condition, but he is doing better, according to a UCLA spokesman.

I may get roasted for this comment, but I actually think Bethel-Thompson is a better passer than Patrick Cowan. Yes, I love Pat's toughness, running ability and leadership qualities.............but, from what I've seen in practices, Mac is a much better passer. I'd be nervous to see him in an important game with no experience but I get a sense he's capable as BO's back-up.

Will Osaar get a look at QB if we're in a critical game situation?

DD There is an odor surrounding the failure of
our coaching staff? to complete the paperwork for Brian Price, our prize recruit out of Crenshaw H>S> Why is So Cal able to practice their recruit Broderick Green who is also not yet cleared by NCAA and we are not able to practice our guy. There is a story here. I suspect we let Brian slip throught the cracks. Can someone clear this up?
