Answers, Part I, and More
First, as always, thanks for the great response in the Q&A. I will break it up into, as of now, four parts.
Second, I think most of us like the format where posts go live right away, and I'm all for witty banter and the exchanging of ideas. However, please keep away from personal insults. I don't want to have to OK every post, because that means I have to monitor this blog every second for an exchange of ideas to really work. Again, please be considerate and not just lambast each other.
Thanks for hearing (or reading) me out, now onto the answers:
Do you see Raymond Carter's injury as a blessing in disguise since he was one of the incoming freshmen who managed to squeak into UCLA academically? Will Ryen Carew get into those situations in which Carter would have been inserted?
I never see an injury as a blessing in disguise. Yes, it will give him time to get acclimated academically, but he is going to miss a year of playing football, then have to shake off that rust next training camp. And, yes, the plan right now is for Carew to get the reps at the third running back spot, in place of Carter.
What's the latest on remaining scholarships for 2008? That is, are we continuing to offer Hamani Stevens, Darrell Scott, etc. What are some of the rumblings, given the situation with Coach Scott and are there any possible 2008 decommits as a result?
Stevens’ scholarship is still there if he wants it (and I’m told by sources that the coaches believe he will) and UCLA remains with its foot in the water on Scott, but is not recruiting him hard.
As for de-commits, I always maintained that as long as Eric Scott is back with the Bruins, the committed recruits will come here.
Does it make sense for Keefe to redshirt this year? Dragovich could seemingly play some PF and we are loaded up front this year. 2
At this moment, I would think Keefe should play. UCLA is about winning titles, and by the time March roles around, Keefe should have enough playing time under his belt to be able to make a contribution toward a title run. I still don’t know if coach Ben Howland will have faith in Dragovic’s ability to play defense, and therefore put him on the court.
Your prediction on whether UCLA signs a 5th recruit and if so who?
My prediction is no.
Do we get Darrell Scott or would he rather be 7th string at sc?
I don’t see Scott at UCLA, and if Pete Carroll can convince him to go to USC, all the more power to him. It will show, again, what a tremendous recruiter/coach Carroll is.
what is the deal with p.j. irvin? he came in as a four star recruit and seems physically ready to play but has not really seen significant pt. what are the coaches thoughts on him? yours?
P.J. Irvin was passed on the two-deep by Nate Skagg, who worked with the first team after Shannon Tevaga was injured during the week. As for the number of stars, I don’t pay attention to them because there are so many variables, especially for offensive linemen, who are the toughest to project out of any of the positions. I think Skaggs passing him tells you all you need to know about what the coaches think, and I’m not going to argue with them on this matter.
Will the coaches move Christan Ramirez to TB?
Right now the staff believes running back is stable enough. Plus, I think the coaching staff is intrigued by Ramirez at safety.
Whatever happened to Junior Lemau'u?
Last I heard he was incarcerated.
