Breakfast and the Bruins
A couple of things as UCLA readies to start practice.
First, and foremost, backup QB Patrick Cowan is out on the field, but on crutches. He is out after hurting his left hamstring in Monday's afternoon session.
Also, with the fullback contingent dwindling, LB Fred Holmes has been switched to fullback. Trevor Theriot is back practicing and DE Bruce Davis and DT Brigham Harwell are in red no-hit jerseys. WR Osaar Rasshan is not practicing again as he continues to come back from last week's concussion.

Brian,
I know that Pat Cowan has already redshirted a year, but if his hammy doesn't heal this season, is there any provision within NCAA rules through which Cowan could apply for a medical redshirt to get a 6th year of eligibility? We see 6th-year players from time to time, but, in my ignorance, I haven't the foggiest idea how that happens.
