Carter done

Bruins freshman tailback Raymond Carter is out for the year after an MRI revealed a torn right ACL. He will have surgery in a few weeks, and red-shirt this season.

Unfreakinbelievable.

In the long run it will be for the best. He can redshirt/get his knee healthy and learn the Norvell system.

He will get bigger and stronger with Doc Kreiss having him for a full year. He will be ready next year.

We have had several players with ACL injuries/surgieries and the outlook is great. Taylor didn't miss a beat and a don't think Carter will either.

Carter will be ready next year with Markey in the NFL.

I've always questioned Doc Kriess as a strength coach but anyways hopefully Raymond Carter has a speedy and full recovery and gets ready for the 2008 season. It will be fun and exciting to watch him compete with Aundre Dean and Milton Knox

Doc Kriess is a HALL OF FAME coach. Hope that answers your question.

This leaves Markey, Bell, Moline and ...?

Will we see Pitre at TB a bit?

Posted by: Peter at August 8, 2007 08:42 PM

Just terrible...........can't think of anything more useful to say :-(

Posted by: Bruin Brian at August 8, 2007 08:44 PM

With Carter and D. Williams gone, our TB depth right now is a serious problem.

Posted by: ohh yea at August 8, 2007 08:52 PM

Markey/Moline

Bell/Carew

That's the depth. The depth is fine, not a "serious problem" at all

I was really looking forward to seeing Ray on the field this year at the Rose Bowl. My heart goes out to him and his family.

I'm sure he will bounce back. This will be a good test of his resolve. He will be counted on to be one of the leaders next year with so many recruits from the City and SoCal area coming in.

I beg to differ. If Markey goes down, our backfield is in serious trouble. Bell or Carew aren't even close to starting quality.

Sidenote, this is what we get for making Aaron Ware a safety and wasting 3 years of his career. He could have contributed at tailback.

Hey Anonymous that was my post about Kreiss but
It seems to me that many not just a few Ucla players have trouble gaining weight. Many players leave around the same weight as they came in as freshman. There are a few who have put solid weight on like D. Carter and Sutherland. But guys like Bruce Davis, Chinny and Terrance Austin are struggling to put on weight just to name a few. You look at workout photos from SC and they all are beast. Yes they are my physically gifted but somethings up. I dont know much about Kreiss so im Just going from roster sizes

Posted by: Bruin33 at August 8, 2007 09:05 PM

Unbelievable. What a way to start the season and they said they didn't think it was serious.

Posted by: Bruin4life at August 8, 2007 09:22 PM

He was the only homerun threat in the backfield,we have no speed at that position. Its a F...ing shame.

Posted by: Anonymous at August 8, 2007 09:27 PM

are there still practice field issues? Hate to think that the stupid turf led to this (like numerous camp injuries in years past).

And, Anonymous, this is not for the best so please, give us a break.

Posted by: pfka at August 8, 2007 09:38 PM

DOC is the best in the business. He is a hall of fame coach. It's speed not weight.

The Sky is Falling !!!

Every year the Maginot mentality.

This is the best team we have fielded in perhaps a decade.

Chill out peeps. Carter was going to be 3rd string Halfback and maybe 2nd string on special teams.

Morgan Center is saying the grass field is down but not ready to play on yet. The coach who fancies himself a CEO can't get the grass field ready in time for Training Camp ... after all this time? Ridiculous.

Here come the excuses ... start lining them up. We still have the best team and season set up in a decade. No excuses!!

Dear DD
Across town their having the same Clearing
House issues.
Should they fire their coach?

Posted by: Jerry Brockett at August 9, 2007 06:50 AM

How about no excuses from UCLA fans from attending games if this is our best team in a decade. UCLA has sold around 50,000 season tickets. Every game should have 80,000 plus.

Damn, that's terrible. Having just gone through tearing two knee ligaments in December, I feel for him - painful doesn't begin to explain it. On the plus side, I was in Los Angeles at the time and I had the UCLA (basketball) team physician as my doctor. Dr. DiFiori - great guy. And I was back to 80% within 4 months. I know that Kreiss is of the same caliber or better.

Is it just me, though, or does it seem like we have a lot of knee injuries at UCLA?

Posted by: gubon13 at August 9, 2007 09:54 AM

The SprintTurf field is easier on the knees and ankles. It's well known that there are fewer injuries on that stuff. Your comments about the grass not being ready are not relevant.

Posted by: Matt at August 9, 2007 02:31 PM

Hey Jerry ... who said Dorrell should be fired for paperwork issues?? Don't be an idiot. Dorrell fancies himself a CEO and has publicly stated he liked the administrative part of the job. Looks like he's failed on that count as well yet another time. It's not one event, it's everything combined, the record, the gaffes, the mismanagement, etc. that should make it clear Dorrell has to win this year or get shown the door.
