Pitre likely out

UCLA wrapped up training camp Wednesday night, and coach Karl Dorrell broke the news that FB Michael Pitre probably won't be ready for the opener against Stanford. Doctors told Pitre that his bone bruise near his left knee must heal before he can return to the field, Dorrell said, so it is something that will be monitored closely.
Trevor Therior, Chad Moline and Dylan Rush are now UCLA's top three fullbacks.
As for the end of camp, Dorrell said he was pleased with how much work got done.
"There was a lot of focus, and we got a lot more done,'' Dorrell said. "That has to do with our experienced. We were able to do a lot more early at this point. We're further along than we've ever been as a team, which is a good sign.''
Dorrell said several walk-ons were in contention for scholarships, which UCLA has three or four to offer for the season. Among the candidates are QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson, DE Tom Blake, LB Josh Edwards, CB Chris Meadows, C Micah Reed, FB Trevor Theriot and PK Jimmy Rotstein.
Dorrell also made it official that Rotstein will handle the kickoffs while Kai Forbath kicks field goals and extra points.

When are the walkons going to find out if they got a scholie? Man, what a dream come true. To continue playing at the D1 level is enough. And getting a schloarship even for one year. That is gravy.

Also, isn't there an annual talent contest by the freshmen? Has that come and gone?
