Second sighting
With backup QB Patrick Cowan down with a hamstring pull, red-shirt freshman walk-on McLeod Bethel-Thompson took the reps with the second team. UCLA coach Karl Dorrell said no added reps were given to the second team to get Bethel-Thompson up to speed.
"He'll be ready to play,'' Dorrell said. "Like I mentioned (Monday), he's a pretty smart kid, bright, picked up a lot of our offense without taking many reps. And it seemed like he had pretty decent command out there, given the situations we were putting him in. I was encouraged with his performance today.''

Brian, due to Cowan's injury, is there any indication that Chris Forcier may not redshirt? It seems like it would be a bad move to move Osaar back to QB, since he has so much potential at WR, but it's even riskier not to have a third QB on the depth chart.

I think it's been noted that Osaar will mainly be playing as a WR, with a few schemes for him as QB in case of an emergency. Hopefully that'll be enough.

Yeah definitely need that 3rd QB. John Sciarra anyone? Man, that was the craziest game I've ever seen. 2 blocked punts inside the 20, and couldn't even a muster a TD. We had Matt Ware running the option. We had ebell running a sweep counter. Nothing. I remember Sciarra saying something like he thought he called a pass play but called a running play and then fumbled when he was staring at the entire Cal d-line right in his grill.
