Practice (bad) luck
DB Garrett Rubio, a walk-on from Mission Viejo High, injured his right ankle during a scrimmage for the third and fourth teams late in camp. What' the big deal? Well, none really, except it is the third day a player was injured during the late scrimmage, which is conducted after many of the first- and second-team guys were released from practice.
On Tuesday, RB Raymond Carter suffered a torn ACL and will miss the season, and Thursday LB Shawn Oatis injured his knee, although he was back at practice Friday.

According to the Wall Street Journal article I read a couple of years ago: half of division1A football players are injured during their college football careers.
The average injury keeps them out for, on average, 6 games.
So injuries are a very big part of the game. It's a coin flip that someone/anyone will be out at least 6 games.
The information was used to support those juniors who declare for the NFL draft (Maurice Jones-Drew, Reggie Bush etc.)
