Practice stuff

For the first time this training camp, UCLA coach Karl Dorrell didn't greet the media with his usual how-good-practice-was speech. Instead, he talked about how guys were tired from Saturday's scrimmage, and that more energy was needed.
"We trudged through practice,'' Dorrell said. "It wasn't exactly the best performance on either side of the ball, but we knew we were going to be sore and tired from 100-plus plays on Saturday, but again, that's not quite what we're expecting for us to do.''
As far as notes from practice, DT Brigham Harwell watched most of it after getting a knee to his thigh during a special teams drill. He is not expected to miss much time.
With Harwell out, Jess Ward took many of the reps with the first team, but Chase Moline also had a few. Even after the scrimmage, there were no changes on the two-deep.
By the way, FB Trevor Theriot was out with a hamstring injury.
