Practice tidbits
Reserve linebacker Shawn Oatis injured his knee late in practice. Results won't be known until today, probably, but folks are concerned on the heels of the Raymond Carter injury.
Also, Ryen Carew took Carter's reps at the third tailback spot, and I continue to be impressed with Osaar Rasshan's aggressiveness fighting for positioning and passes.

Terrible news about both Raymond Carter and Shawn Oatis. We all know that injuries are a part of the game. But still it seems tragic to see young men who work so hard in the classroom and on the field to achieve their goals, be deprived of the ability to compete at a game they love.
Here's hoping that Oatis is spared the serious ACL fate of Ray, who flashed both the impressive speed and elusiveness to be the breakaway threat many fear UCLA lacks. Though Ryen Carew flashed an impressive burst at talback last year, before injuring his knee. So he deserves some looks after fighting back through rehab. Good for him.
As for Osaar. I have followed his career with extreme interest since before he was offered. He was a tall skinny, wide eyed high school junior at UCLA camp, who QBed his team to the 7 on 7 championship in a spirited shirt and skins game.
So I am absolutely thrilled so see how he has physically matured, gained confidence and is asserting himself at a position he has played for only a few short months. Let's see now ... 6-4, 220, 4.5, great body control, balance, power, elusivness, a surprisingly strong set of hands, and the heart of a fierce competitor.
With his incredible natural skills, once he refines his route running and learns the nuances of his position he will be a truly elite Division 1 WR with NFL potential written all over him. The cool thing is, he works as hard after practice as anybody, always taking extra reps. Plus he is an excellent student and a classy, humble young man, who will represnet UCLA extremely well. Yeah, I s'pose you can consider me a serious Osaar fan.
Thanks for being at the cutting edge of all thangs Bruinesque Brian. Leave it to a Rutgers man to break the E Scott story. Rock on...

Osaar and Cowan are both big targets and should help us convert more redzone opportunities from '3' to '7'.

Osaar at the wideout also gives us "trickplay capability" that we've lacked in the past... now it's up to the coaches to use it (at the right time!)
