Ramirez talks
UCLA allowed Christian Ramirez to speak after Wednesday morning's practice, and he said being switched back to running back felt like the correct move.
Ramirez did have trouble lining up correctly a few times, but what do you expect? He moved after Monday's double session, and I think most of you know how complicated this offense is, so imagine having to pick it up on the fly (although he did spent a little time on offense last training camp).
“It feels right,’’ Ramirez said. “I feel like I’m running a little high right now. I’m just getting into it. I’ll probably start lowering my shoulder a little bit more. I feel at home at running back.’’
Part of the move, as I see it, was UCLA's displeasure about Ryen Carew as the third tailback, behind Chris Markey and Kahlil Bell, and knowing Chane Moline could be out for a while. Carew went from scrimmage workhorse to running with the scout team.

Do you think Ramirez looks better than Carew or Sheppard? is he about as fast as Markey?
thanks,

Brian, what makes you believe that the coaches are displeased with Carew as the third tailback?

Brian,
What exactly have you heard about Chane Moline's return? I know he's in a cast on the arm that he normally would not carry the ball with.
Wasn't there something about him being able to play with a soft cast on? And if not be ready for Stanford, then to be ready for BYU ?

Brian what makes you say UCLA was displeased with Carew? Is this just a statement that after giving him some reps they weren't happy with his talent or is there something more to that comment?

Two things,
The Moline injury remains a fluid process. He said he could be in a cast for six weeks, which would keep him out of four games. But there is a possibility he could get fitted with a soft cast, the bone could heal more quickly, and he could return before that.
As for Carew, it's simple. He was practicing as the third running back. In the scrimmage he didn't look great, and now Ramirez is the third running back and Carew is on scout team. It's a pretty simple deduction.

I guess Ryen Carew shouldn't have run that ball out of the endzone from eight yards deep after muffing it...

This is the first that I have read that Carew did not look great at the scrimmage. All of the reports that I have read indicate that Carew has looked very good during practice. Couldn't the fact that Ramirez is running with the third team be attributed to getting him as many reps as possible since it is so late in the game? If Ramirez ran with the scout team he would be running Stanford's plays and not learning our plays. Just a thought since I was excited to see Carew finally get to play this year.

I really wanted to see Carew get some reps this year. He's been waiting and taking his lumps from the coaches who have been ripping him for his "high school" play, but he's been coached for a while now and you'd think they could mold him into a decent back-up for a situation exactly like this, when a lot of guys are injured.

The coaches Used Carew to tweek their defense last year, if you practice against a fast back your defense will move faster, defense is the only thing keeping them in the game at this point till offense catches up. He got hurt and pulled his hamstring against Florida State and their back ran all over them.
