Scott officially back
UCLA receivers coach Eric Scott was re-instated and rejoined the program Saturday after an afternoon meeting with athletics director Dan Guerrero, the school announced following its late afternoon practice.
It was reported previously by the Daily News that Scott would be re-instated.
“We are glad that this situation has reached its conclusion through the legal process,’’ UCLA coach Karl Dorrell said. “After an extensive deliberation with coach Scott and a clear and thorough evaluation of the entire matter by the campus, we have decided to re-instate Eric to the coaching staff.’’
Scott, who was on paid administrative leave since July 25, was re-instated two days after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office decided not to file charges in connection with an arrest in Norwalk for suspicion of burglary.
Scott, who makes $90,000, was paid during his leave, but had virtually no contact with the program since the arrest.
Among the conditions placed upon Scott’s re-instatement is the he keep out of trouble, with no more blights against the school. After his arrest, it was learned Scott had four previous arrests and two prior misdemeanor convictions.
In Scott’s absence, coach Karl Dorrell and graduate assistant Brian Callahan filled in to coach the receivers.
