PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Big picture

UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker wanted his defense to play better, but in the context of a 12-game season, and given UCLA won handily, he was pleased many of this players weren't happy with the way the defense played.
"I'm glad they're saying that,'' Walker said. "We still have 11 games left, plus a bowl game. We have more than enough time to get back to where we want to be. I think, in a lot of ways, this is good for us.
I'll go back to the lab, watch the tape, and look at some stuff. Again, we may play somebody else that throws the ball 60 times at us.''
