PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Harwell's injury

I'm not sure where it started, but I received some emails from folks saying they read DT Brigham Harwell's injured knee was a completely torn medial collateral ligament, rather than the partially torn MCL UCLA announced.
Well, I called Harwell's brother, Joe Williams, who became Harwell's guardian a few years back, and asked him if the MCL was completely torn.
"No, no, no, no, no,'' Williams said. "It's partially torn. There is no complete tear. That would be wrong."
The injury is supposed to keep Harwell out at least another three weeks, and as I previously reported, Harwell is considering taking a red-shirt if he cannot play at the level he would like.

So did BO practice and will he start? How come it seems there's never any QB loyalty from KD. First Matt Moore and now this.

Considering UCLA doesn't practice for another two hours, I can't answer the question yet.

Brian,

The "torn" rumor started in the comments on THIS site, when you stated that there was a "twist" to the Harwell story. Some guy posted that your "twist" was that it was torn, but your actual twist was that he might redshirt. I also think the "torn" rumor was on BRO as well.
