PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Fond memories

The last time UCLA played at Stanford Stadium, the Bruins rallied from a 21-point fourth-quarter deficit and won 30-27 in overtime. The last time Bruins DE Tom Blake and LB Josh Edwards were at Stanford Stadium, their UC-Davis team stunned the Cardinal 20-17.
Both games were in 2005, but which was the bigger shocker? UC-Davis was in the transition from Division II to Division I-AA.
"We dominated them,'' Edwards said. "They scored on the offensive side. Except for a field goal, we shut them out. They picked up two fumbles, one in the end zone and one at the 50, but we definitely shut their offense down.''
Edwards was a starter and Blake was a reserve in the UC-Davis game.
"We saw the tape and we were hungry,'' Edwards said. "We were talking smack. Not to reporters, but we were like, 'We're going to handle this.' ''
Both players are reserves for the Bruins.
