PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Getting defensive

As was reported earlier in the week, UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker said Korey Bosworth would start at DE and his twin brother, Kyle, would start at linebacker. I was also told by sources CB Alterraun Verner was the leading candidate to start opposite CB Trey Brown, although Rodney Van will also play.
Here's what Walker said about the reasons for the changes:
"It's competition. Guys can't rest on their laurels,'' Walker said. "As a coach, just give me effort and I'll put you on the field. Everybody kept talking about having 10 starters back on defense, but look at the first four games. The last one, we played a little bit better, but this kind of turns the heat back up."
