PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Post practice Thursday

Bruins coach Karl Dorrell said QB Ben Olson was cleared by doctors, but still must past a physical exertion test before returning to the field. Since Thursday was the last practice, Olson will not be available against Washington, Dorrell added.
As for who gets the nod next week at starting quarterback, Dorrell said he wanted to worry about the Washington game before making a comment.
Dorrell also said he noticed "more focus" this week in practice than last week. As I stated earlier in the week, the attitude was much more workmanlike than in the previous few weeks.
And DE Nikola Dragovic still did not practice because of a concussion and will not play.

Dorrell also said he noticed "more focus" this week in practice than last week. Is is not the coaches job to get the team focused every day in practice?? Every week the team should have the same focus no matter who they are playing. Maybe a little bit more the week of suc but geez. Does the team and coaches think they are that good when they have not proven anything at all?? I use to really like Dorrell but now the ship is starting to sail the other way.

you can't make race horses out of jackasses.

No matter who the coach is, if the players don't show up mentally they will get beat.

UTAH was on the players most of all especially the defense who mailed it in before kickoff. Horton admitted it himself.

Yep, this is getting ridiculous.

Wow, more focused during practice after a humiliating loss. Glad to hear.

Plus, even if Olson doesn't practice, he needs to be cleared for this game to be a backup, correct? WTF is going on? Is Olson in the doghouse? I can imagine it being worse than that.

I'm afraid to ask what "more focused" means in comparison to last week. You mean focused enough to finally score just one touchdown, or two?

Amazing.
