PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Price sighting

In the locker room after the BYU win I ran into freshman DT Brian Price, who is still awaiting word from the NCAA clearinghouse. He said he was frustrated not to be able to play, but remains upbeat and optimistic he will eventually be cleared and return to the practice field.
And with DT Brigham Harwell lost with a sprained MCL (and understand that in medical terms, a sprain means a tear, so today's MRI is to determine the severity of the tear), getting Price back could be huge.

Can you get us an update on Pat Cowan when you get a chance? Havne't heard much. Any time frame at all? 1 week? 10 weeks?

This was an item I did that ran in the paper late last week:

Dorrell said backup quarterback Patrick Cowan (hamstring) was at least a week from returning to practice.

Of course, once Cowan gets back to practice, it could take him a few more weeks to get ready to play.

This whole Price ordeal is even frustrating me. Either his paper work is way out of whack that they're still sorting through the mess or the Clearinghouse is just incompetent (or run by SC Alums).
