PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Stuffin' the run

BYU's offense has a considerable size advantage along the line of scrimmage. The Cougars average 318.4 pounds on the line. It's not a big deal inside, where UCLA defensive tackles Kevin Brown (295 pounds) and Brigham Harwell (298 pounds) have size and strength. But UCLA defensive ends Bruce Davis (238 pounds) and Nikola Dragovic (260 pounds) will need to rely on quickness, speed and technique.
“They’re ready to go out and beat up some big guys this week,'' UCLA cornerback Trey Brown said. "Bruce, Brigham, Bear (Brown), Drago, and all those guys up front will be ready to go.’’
