Third too many
BYU converted 6 of 16 (37.5 percent) of its third downs, including several third-and-long situations.
"Our goal is 33 (percent),'' UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker said. "What they were doing, and I knew this was going to happen, a lot of teams play 11 personnel. That's one running back, one tight end, three wide receivers. We were kind of kicking their butt in their 11 personnel.
"So they went to 21 personnel, which is two backs, one tight end, two wide receivers, and I don't like to play nickel defenses against 21 personnel because it's a little confusing getting the guys lined up, so we were limited with our calls, and they were going 21 personnel. They even went 12 personnel, which is one running back, two tight ends nad two wide receivers.
"They gave us some really unorthodox personnel groups that really limited our calls, so we had to play what we had.''

COACH, YOU THINK OTHER TEAMS ARE GOING TO A 21 PERSONNEL AFTER THIS GAME? please, get the boys ready... and who cares if you don't like nickel. you have lockett and ware, who hardly played but can cover better than keyes & horton!

Got to love the internet coaches. Polish off the resume johnnyb and I will fax it to Guerrero for you.
Keyes leads the team in tackles. 6 against the trees and 10 against BYU.
Horton is one of the best SS in the PAC-10 if not the country.
Please children, research before you post.

maybe since your in the know, you don't need to be reading blogs...
keep in mind horton gets most of those tackles within 3-5 yards of the l.o.s.
and safeties SHOULD not be your leading tacklers!

I am backing johnnyb on this -- Keyes and Horton are much better run defenders than pass defenders. Lockett and Ware should be getting some situational experience.
