Dead locker room
In my five seasons of covering UCLA, this was the most dead I can remember the locker room after a loss. Many of the usual players around after games were hard to find.
Anyway, I asked WR Brandon Breazell how difficult it was to muster an offense with third-string quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson in the game.
"To me, it's no different,'' Breazell said. "Obviously, he's a freshman quarterback, but you would think he would have a good feel for the game.''

Dorrell is walking out of Westwood with his million dollar buy-out leaving this team in shambles for the 4rth time out of 5 years.
Email Dan Guerrero dguerrero@athletics.ucla.edu to recommend that he replace Karl Dorrell immediately with an interim coach and restore competitiveness to this program.

Hey. Karl is doing a great job with that talent that he has. He has never brought in top flight talent at any position and has a chance to win the pac 10. And next season we will have a lot of young talent that he can work with. GIve him some time. I know it took a while for him to get his feet wet but things are starting to look up. But if you are going to get off the band wagon now. do not come back. whining and complaining will not make things better.

Alan - you are out of your mind. These are all his players, his coaches and his system. No excuses. And he has had PLENTY of time to get his feet wet - we're halfway through his fifth season and still making bonehead mistakes and terrible game planning and personnel decisions. And next season what he'll have is UNEXPERIENCED talent. If he's doing this with 20 seniors, what's in store for next year?

Wow, you guys have no lives. Is this what you do all day? I consider myself a UCLA that actually enjoys being a fan and will not let a loss affect my mood, as you guys seem to. Maybe I have bigger fish to fry than live through 18-20 year old kids. I will enjoy my sunday while you guys complain about something you have no control over. Bottom line is that Guerrero loves KD and he is not going anywhere.

tough loss, but not the end of the world. seems like alan has a life outside of athletics.

Alan, I used to feel exactly the way you do. He's making good progress, give him time, he has the program going in the right direction. I thought the Utah loss was an embarrassment, but rationed that it was due to taking them lightly. Last night was the last straw. I can no longer look past the glaring issues that even any competent coach would work around and resolve. He's had 5 years to build the program, and in the crowning moment last night, with the biggest, brightest stage, he completely flopped. He showed his inadequate game prep, total lack of contigency planning, allowed poor play calling and made zero adjustments on offense. We keep repeating the same mistakes over and over, and I'm done with it.

with fans like some folks out there, the Bruins do not need enemies. It is too bad that college football has become the province of big business, big money and a fan base who forgets that these are student athletes in a student program. In most high school programs here, you would never think of booing the other team, much less your own kids and their coaches. It is a nasty shock for these kids and their parents (such as me), to hear Bruins scream at their own team at the stadium and to read the posts of the technos who have nothing better to do than flame the team. Would love to see you in the weight room at 5 am, on the fields or the sidelines to see how you would compete among these young men who work their hearts out every day, 8 hours a day, plus handle a full load as a student. It certainly is easy to talk, isn't it? Go Bruins!!!

I understand that season ticket sales this year are good and that game attendance last saturday was very good -- I had to park in the neighborhoods it was so full, which usually only happens for USC. The ticket was a $75 ticket and Notre Dame did not travel well with its record at the time, so their allocation was not sold out. right? Cal will be a sell out.

Dear Bruin parent... the 'long knives' are out for our beloved dolt of a coach. NOT the players!!! 6 games into the season and the O-line still racks up BASIC procedure penalties like only having 6 men on the line of scrimmage.EVERY game that happens!!! Don't even get me started on the numerous 'False starts'! WHY???
GOD bless these kids they are sacrificing and doing their part. What is obvious to most everyone EXCEPT KD is that his offensive concepts for whatever reason just don't work. IF that is all KD knows, then he has got to go.
It's been said before, but it is worth repeating; "KD's wco is difficult to implement, but is easy to defend". That won't get er done!
The proof of the matter is that with a senior laden team with pretty good talent, this offense is a disaster. Next year with a bunch of newcomers do you expect improvement? If not now, when?
This coach is deficient enough to keep this team mired in mediocrity for the length of his tenure.
We care for these kids. I respect their hard work and dedication. It's because of this that I want KD gone. That effort is wasted with what KD has to offer. GO BRUINS!

Amen, Rick. This has nothing to do with the players. If you look at what KD has done in his 4.5 years, you will see nothing but inconsistency and mediocrity! EVERY YEAR we've lost games BECAUSE OF COACHING MALPRACTICE (can we sue for that?). Stanford (03), Wyoming (04), Arizona (05), Washington (06), Florida State (06), Utah (07), NOTRE DAME TWICE (06 & 07)! And it's not because of a lack of talent or dedication on the players' part. It's the fault of boring, excuse-making, apathetic, unmotivated coaching. UCLA needs to put more emphasis on football and pay for a REAL head coach. If Howland can earn $1.5 mil a year, why not a football coach? And this is LA... the cost of living is prohibitive at best. If you want a winning head coach, you gotta shell out the big bucks. And it's about time Dan Guerrero faced that reality and did it! Don't skimp on our Bruins' football program to produce a mediocre 4th-place-in-the-pac-10 team! GO BRUINS!
