Defensive change
Oregon State had 147 yards of offense in the first quarter, and 101 yards in the next three. A big reason was the defensive adjustment by coordinator DeWayne Walker.
"We got into more dog pressures, playing a little more man-to-man and bringing linebackers blitzing,'' Walker said. "We were trying to secure more of the gaps. I always ask the DBs, can we cover them, and if they tell me, 'Yeah,' I always try to play a little bit more man-to-man. We mixed it up and I thought that helped us."

And what does Walker do when his DB's say, "No coach, I can't cover this guy"??

I think the jist is that DW is first getting feedback from his DB's and using that information when he evaluates the adjustments. He knows who can or can't cover DeSean Jackson 1:1. Bottom line is the adjustments were effective. Canfield was only throwing underneath in the early going when our corners were in 7-10 zone cushion off the line. Once we went man-up, they no longer were able to get space at the LOS. It was game over at that point, regardless of the OSU kick return fumbles.
