Dorrell on Olson's pick
UCLA coach Karl Dorrell said QB Ben Olson should have thrown the ball away rather than attempt to pick up four yards on a 3-and-11 pass late in the third quarter that was intercepted. It cost UCLA a chance to kick a go-ahead field goal.
“That was really not his primary read,’’ Dorrell said. “We were trying to get a first down. We were trying to take a shot in the end zone, and both of those options were covered. In fact, the play was covered pretty well. The only one that really had an option was the one singular receiver to the (left), ….
“That’s the whole idea (to throw it away), and he knows that. That’s the first thing he mentioned after the game, that he needs to make a better decision there."

Disagree with Coach Dorrell's assessment. I think OSU was in Cover 2 (IIRC) when that play was run, and Logan Paulsen actually broke open in the middle of the zone which would have resulted in a touchdown. It looked like Olson glanced at the first two reads, then locked onto Breazell waiting for him to get open. A little film session should help him pick up the defensive set, in which case he would have known Paulson would get some space in the middle of that zone coverage.
