PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

On Cowan, Harwell

UCLA coach Karl Dorrell asked about the status of injured DT Brigham Harwell and injured QB Patrick Cowan. Both are out with torn MCLs.
"(Harwell) is trying to get himself back in a couple of weeks, and it's hard to say whether that will happen or not,'' Dorrell said. "Same thing with Pat. He's working hard to get back, too. But it's hard to put a time frame on when both guys will be back. They're going to need to do the running, and the practice and all that stuff. When they're able to do that, than we'll have a better timetable on that."
Also, WR Gavin Ketchum (ankle) had an MRI Wednesday, which was negative. There is an outside chance Ketchum could be ready for Cal on Oct. 20.
