PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Sunday night quickies

Nothing really new on the QB front. Coach Karl Dorrell said a few hours ago that Ben Olson would get an MRI Monday, although the belief continues to be there is no structural damage, although Olson is feeling pain in the joint.
Dorrell did say there was a chance Patrick Cowan could be back Oct. 20 against Cal. Cowan could do some practice this week, but it would probably be on a limited basis.
The coaching staff will look and make a decision during the week about where they stand with McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Osaar Rasshan and Chris Forcier.
At least practices should be fun (yeah, right). The are at 6 a.m. this week.

Why are practices at 6am this week Brian? I could understand end of week, so they could get out and recruit/evaluate...

Brian, were these 6am practices just scheduled after last night's debacle or was these planned well in advance? Is Chris Markey expected to be back for the Cal game? Thanks as always for your work.

Brian, have you noticed any boxes piled up in Dorrell's office or any other signs that he might be leaving soon?
