PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Coming through

If UCLA is healthy, it will be tough for Nikola Dragovic to get playing time, I'm told.. However, Dragovic hit a bit 3-pointer late in the win against Oregon, which did not surprise coach Ben Howland.
"That's what he's supposed to do,'' Howland said. "That was a pick-and-pop. He's open. He had a great follow through on it. It was a huge shot."
Howland said he had such confidence in Dragovic because he has been practicing so well.
"His practice, especially the last six or seven practices, he really stepped it up a level and been much better,'' Howland said.

Drag had a nice shot coming off a screen and swishing it from the elbow. He seems to be getting more confidence in his offense but his defense, as seen in the OSU game, is still sorely lacking. On the other hand, Josh Shipp's defense was no better in that game.
