PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Ready to play?

It will be interesting to see whether or not UCLA is emotionally ready to play from the get-go against Oregon State. About an hour before the game Kevin Love was posing with a fan for a photograph, players were joking around a lot more than usual and seemed to lack the focus they usually have before a game.

It's not like they were tearing it up during the past two emotionally charged games. Maybe a little relaxing will be good for them. Teams play best when they are out there having fun. I expect a better start, than say the quick 7 point deficit vs. Oregon.
