PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

"Vile" and "disgusting"

UCLA coach Ben Howland was displeased with how Kevin Love was treated at Oregon on Thursday, and here is the story that ran in today's paper about it.
Also, in commenting on Love's performance, Howland had this to say:
"To handle all that for a kid who is 19, knowing that it’s going to happen ...and we talked about it – I prepped him, told him what I thought he needed to do, which is just not even respond, look, anything. You’re on business and he really was very business-like in terms of his focus.
‘’I really wasn’t surprised at it. Obviously, it’s one of his best games, looking at the numbers and the whole deal. But, yeah, I’m not surprised."
