PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Collison on Tech.

UCLA PG Darren Collison said he received the technical foul early in the second half at Washington because he didn't like the way his teammate, Josh Shipp, was being grabbed and pushed by Washington's Venoy Overton.
“I thought he did a cheap shot on Josh, and I was sticking up for my teammate,’’ Collison said. “It was probably a little bit unnecessary. I didn’t think I should get a technical foul, but the ref, he gave me a technical foul, and it wasn’t a big deal.’’
Was it something you said or did that got the technical?
“I don’t know what it was,’’ Collison said. “I think it was because I reacted.’’
Did Collison say any magical words?
“No, I just reacted,’’ Collison said.

Next time DC should take a basketball and throw it off of Overton's face. That would be okay with the refs. Of course it would have to be an inbouds play.
