PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Collison's leadership

Several of UCLA's players spoke after the USC game about the leadership of point guard Darren Collison during the week off.
"Darren and I talked a lot, and he was very vocal (all) week,'' UCLA center Kevin Love said. "He really wanted this win (against USC) and really to get this team back on track after that loss to Washington. He was very vocal, and he he did a great job of being a leader. I think you saw that before the game. He told us we had to get this win."

I have been following UCLA sports sense the middle 60's. UCLA always has the guy that you think we will never see again. DC is that guy at this moment in time. The list of point guards that I have followed is endless, just goes to say how great a program we have been able to watch over the years...
