PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Dean talks

I spoke to Katy (Tex.) High running back Aundre Dean, and he said after meeting new UCLA running backs coach Wayne Moses and having several phone conversations with offensive coordinator Norm Chow, he kept his commitment with UCLA.
"I never did de-commit because I liked the school so much,'' Dean said. "If I thought it was going to be a problem with the new coaching staff, I would have de-committed and gone someplace else. I knew they had a good head coach. I knew coach (Rick) Neuheisel was a good guy and knew how to win and knew how to recruit."

Evidently, Chow on the phone is very effective in recruiting. Plus, it keeps Chow fresh and energized and hopefully happy with UCLA.

I'm so glad AD kept his commitment and thankful for our coaches to stayed on him. AD's commitment by no means lessens the need to keep Milton Knox or JFranklin on board. UCLA needs the talent, the players if it intends to compete with the Trojans and the rest of the PX.

Congrats to Rick, Norm and the O staff. 4 days until the best UCLA signing day in over a decade.
