PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

First time for everything

The Serving Spoon - where 13 of UCLA's recruits signed today - served up grits to quarterback Nick Crissman for the first time on Wednesday. Jerry Johnson's parents - J.C. and Angela - own the urban restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and soul food. The restaurant has been in the family for 25 years. Jeff Baca's mom, Arlene, ate the best omelette she's ever had, she said.

The way this class was kept together is very pleasing and most pleasing is how much these kids have grown to support each other. What is especially gratifying is listening and/or reading Coach N give so much credit to his assistants and Karl. Rick has only impressed so far.

Fellow Bruins, let's go out and support this restaurant! It's owned by Bruins and has great reviews on yelp. (http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-serving-spoon-inglewood#hrid:MOjsLNj4JeI0IIjU7Sw4SQ/query:serving%20spoon)
