PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

More Knox

Here is the story I wrote for online on Milton Knox:

By Brian Dohn
Staff Writer
Birmingham High of Lake Balboa running back Milton Knox, the Daily News player of the year, is going to UCLA, according to his father.
Milton Knox Sr. said his son “was leaning’’ toward Notre Dame, but after talking about it as a family stuck with UCLA. Knox originally committed to UCLA in June, but was contemplating a switch to Notre Dame after making an official visit over the weekend.
“He is,’’ Knox Sr. said when asked if Milton was attending UCLA. “It was a pretty tough decision for him. I think the thing that played a big role is family, and being close to home.
“The family is here, and his grandmother, who he is close with, is up in age, and it would have been tough to go to his games (at Notre Dame). I’ve been watching him play since Pop Warner. I coached him in Pop Warner.’’
Knox is the Los Angeles City Section record holder in career rushing yards (6,695) and touchdowns (103). He ran for 2,210 yards and 39 touchdowns while leading Birmingham to a second straight City Section championship this season.
