PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Rick, Norm and DeWayne

Rick Neuheisel, always comfortable with a microphone, took defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker and offensive coordinator Norm Chow on to the floor at Pauley Pavilion during halftime for another pep talk. UCLA fans were on their feet during brief statements by each of the coaches.
Walker received such applause that he could only smile and wait for the noise to die down before he spoke.
When Norm Chow got the microphone, Neuheisel and Walker bowed. Chow then made a motion to slit his throat - imploring the crowd to stop.
He didn't say much, but he said enough.
``My family and I are awfully excited to be Bruins,'' Chow said. ``... We’re excited to be here, and we can’t wait to get going. Like DeWayne said, we’re going to bring you a championship.''

The standing ovation those guys got at Pauley last night was the loudest I have ever heard. Next year will be challenging... but those three coaches have a shot at doing something special at UCLA.

And which championship might they have been referring?--

City Championship? (likely over the next 5-years)

Lower Pac-10? (probable)

Outright Pac-10? (maybe)

National? (not in your lifetime)

Lawyer John, your condescending, Pro-SC trolling has stopped being cute. I’m sure you would find many kindred spirits who share your sentiments at the Daily News blog designated for your school.

Thanks Billy. It's gotten quite annoying.
