Conspiracy going on?

| | Comments (11) |

Because of all the interesting late-game calls and non-calls, many of which have gone UCLA's way, some are wondering if there's a conspiracy theory. Kevin Love didn't think that was the case.
``I hope not,'' he said. ``At the end of a game like that, you never know. We still have to come back. We still have to hit our shots. Everybody hates UCLA now. We're not feeling bad.''

I coached for many years, and could never say a game was won or lost on ONE play. Many times I tried to convince my self, but that was not the case....like the photo....I went back a watched the game 4 or 5 times and there where lots of calls that changed the game at that one point or the other...and I watched films of games I coached and came away with the same feeling.....we all need to move on the "Sun will come up tomorrow no matter what happens"

Jill,

How about doing some analysis and telling us which games (notice I said game and not individual play) you thought UCLA recieved unfair officiating in?

If you don't think they did, why don't you report the truth about this matter instead of reporting falsehoods under the guise "some people say..."

REPORT THE TRUTH

An NCAA officiating Conspiracy Theory??? Oh please. I'd stay and expound further, but I'm being watched 24/7 :-)

Mrs. Painter, you've truly outdone yourself on this one. To suggest such a ludicrous and defamatory claim in a forum in which readers look to for unbiased information from reporters without an agenda. You are choosing to isolate 2, perhaps 3, calls from officials in 2 or 3 separate games and on your own accord implying that some sort of "conspiracy theory" is at hand. Shame on you Mrs. Painter, you've truly taken Daily News journalism to a new low.

The only conspiracy in college sports is how the NCAA hasn't put USC on probation by now for all the cheating going on over there.

How disappointing Jill, with your last 2 choice of post topics!! With a Sweet 16 game only a day and a half away and you couldn't come up with something else! Talk about beating a dead horse! Funny, but with the great season UCLA is having you couldn't come up with something of more substance. Very, Very Sad!!

The topic was discussed at today's press conference with Howland and players. If you've been watching college basketball analysts on television, this has been discussed there as well. I think people are taking this a little too seriously. It's meant as a topic to discuss. Agree or disagree. I am not saying there is or isn't a conspiracy theory.

As an ardent Bruin fan who was at the game and witnessed the come back and win against A&M I thought it was a clean block real time, no one from Coach Turgeon on down to Sloan spent even one breath on the so-called non-call and, as more than one poster noted, stills can be deceiving. I have watched a close up of the video replay numerous times and no, there was no foul but a clean block that made its way to Westbrook who was almost at half court. This was a very rough game, go to the Brown website and watch all of the videos and see how the Bruins were manhandled. There could have been 2x the number of fouls called but what good would that do? Conspiracy, come on why would any one conspire in favor of UCLA, Esp. the white-haired ref who made a number of calls against UCLA which were horrific. At the same time, I agree with Jill that folks have to lighten up, this is a blog, inherently provocative; if you don't like the topics and the discussions go to Bruins Online. This is the real world, what people are talking about. My answer to the topic is that it was a non call in a game of non and bad calls, when the Bruins were ahead. Case closed. Onward to WKY

c'mon you guys leaving comments. stop complaining so much. there's no doubt that we've had a lot of close calls go our way in the past 3 weeks. all of my non-bruin friends give me a hard time for them constantly. even if all of them were called correctly, there's no doubt that some outsiders would question the validity of these calls. maybe it's just destiny...

Look, seriously, refs hook us the majority of the games. We get lucky calls at the end, I see it as karma. No one wants another UCLA dynasty. Tough. Deal with it America.

Jill,

I understand it is something being talked about, and don't have a problem with you bringing it up, but you watched all three games, and it would be helpful if rather than repeating other peoples opinions (which is what they are) you would revisit the games and tell us if you think UCLA got an unfair officiating advantage.

If you do, explain why. If you don't, why don't you start offering another viewpoint than that of the majority media.

Its not a reporters job to report each others opinions. If you are going to report opinion, tell us what your opinion is as well. Thanks.
