PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Cowan on target

When I chatted with UCLA football coach Rick Neuheisel for a few moments the other day, he said quarterback Patrick Cowan, who had knee surgery last month, was on target for being ready to participate in spring practice, which begins April 3.

That's good news. Pat gives us the best chance of winning. Ben has a history of having a terrific first game, then goes in the tank. Maybe he can be a good backup.

Brian,
What is going on with the walk on QB Crook. he's budddies with Cowan and I hear he isn't even working out anymore with the team and working out at Wooden. Does Neuheisel and Chow even know he was on the team last year as the one of the scout team QB's. Here's a walk on with great credentials who probably could step up if we get in a bind because we all know Ben will break down again. And from what I have read here in the blog the JUCO QB was a after thought. Crook was recruited nationally according to CBS Sportsline, Rivals, Cal Hi Sports What gives?
