PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Dragovic ailing

The potential is there for UCLA to play three straight games in the Pac-10 tournament, but its depth could be a bit of an issue because reserve wing Nikola Dragovic is battling a sore knee. He should be available for Thursday's quarterfinal game, but bouncing back for a game the next night could be an issue.

Re: the comment in the Howland press conference regarding Roll potentially playing this year. Was that a bit of Howland's sarcastic humor, or is Roll playing again being seriously considered? Depending on his fitness, he could be an useful bench asset, given the outside shooting inconsistency with the team. Perhaps you could look into a Roll update sometime this week.

Thanks...
