PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Golper talks

Arcadia High linebacker Todd Golper said his family ties, and his bond with UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker, were big reasons why he gave UCLA a non-binding oral commitment today.
His dad, John, went to UCLA law school and his brother, Brian, is a first-year at UCLA law school. Also, he played with Walker's son, Kevan, at Arcadia High last season.
"My top two schools were Stanford and UCLA,'' said Golper, who was at UCLA's Junior Day today. "I saw what I wanted to see when I was at Stanford's Junior Day last week. I was at UCLA (today) and saw the part of student life that I hadn't seen.
"UCLA seems to be the best fit for me. Overall, the football program at UCLA, the school, and they were the first school to offer a scholarship, so it all fit. And DeWayne Walker, so I couldn't ask for more."

Great to hear! Welcome Todd! Neuheisel's first pick-up = 4 Star LB. Looking forward to see if he can get more studs like Golper to fill up the class.
