PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

No Brockman

UCLA faces the winner of Wednesday's No. 8 seed Washington vs. No. 9 seed California in Thursday's quarterfinals of the Pac-10 tournament, but the Huskies may be hard-pressed to beat the Bears since leading scorer and rebounder Jon Brockman is doubtful with a sprained ankle.
According to reports out of Seattle, Brockman is walking with the aid of crutches.
"If he's still on crutches, I would be shocked if he would play Wednesday,'' UCLA coach Ben Howland said.

This may be Brockman's swan song in the Pac-10 and I suspect that, unless that leg is amputated, he'll play. Go Huskies!

Cal will have Harden back and you would think they will dominate UW if Brockman can't play. Can't figure the oddsmaker's choice of Cal by 1 point. These same guys had the Bruins winning by 16 last Saturday. Either way, UCLA gets a sweet rematch: either avenge the loss up at Seattle or play a solid game against the Bears this time and not have to have any buzzer-beataing shots to win the game.
