Offensive efficiency
Stanford coach Trent Johnson said his Cardinal is different than the team that UCLA beat by nine points Jan. 3 at Maples Pavilion.
“I think our offensive efficiency, our offensive execution is a little bit better,’’ Johnson said. “I think, defensively, we’ve taken a step back at times in the rebounding. We’ve had some breakdowns there.’’
Interesting comments borne out by the statistics. The teams are virtually even on rebounding margin but UCLA is way ahead steals and turnover margin. If Brook had played enough games I suspect that he would be leading the league in rebounding.
Not very encouraging words from the ol coach. Sounds as if another 9-point beating is in store, although the betting line will probably be set at 6.
I don't see Stanford winning this game, and in fact I can envision them getting down by 15, pulling to within 8, and then losing by 11.
Betters, give the points in this one.
To second OTT's comments, UCLA is a better team at exploiting breakdowns on the defensive front and on ball handling/passing, and leads the league by a considerable margin in steals. Bruins by 9. See some of you at the game, in Bruin blue.
GO BRUINS!!!!
Better on offense and worse on defense is hardly a good exchange. Maybe Trent is trying to downgrade his team's D to use as a motivational tool and get his guys playing better on the defensive end? He'll have his team ready to play. He always has dating back to his days at Nevada. The chess match between him and Ben will be almost as interesting as the matchup on the floor. Trent would win a staring contest hands down though.
Whoops, betting update. The line came out UCLA favored by 10. That seems a bit high, but in my analysis (UCLA by 11) there is not enough margin to justify a bet on the Bruins (or Stanford for that matter).
